Opp to open new fronts against govt in Parliament

After no-trust motion

May move no-trust motions against Speaker, Deputy Speaker National Assembly

ISLAMABAD  -  Since the Speaker National Assembly is bound to summon the National Assembly before March 22, the opposition may open other fronts against government by moving no-trust motions against Speaker and Deputy Speaker National Assembly.

With its efforts to secure a magic figure of 172 votes, the joint opposition is contemplating to block the Speaker National Assembly and Deputy Speaker National Assembly from chairing a special session of the national assembly to take up no-trust motion against the Prime Minister.

The Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser, following the requisition submitted in the national assembly secretariat, has to summon the national session within 14 days [Before March22].

The government, as per its parliamentary practice, will adjourn the proceedings on the first day of the session without taking up any agenda as PTI’s MNA Haji Khayal Zaman passed away last month.

According to the parliamentary norms, the chair will adjourn the proceedings of the national assembly on the first day of the session if any sitting MNA dies. The national assembly has always followed this parliamentary norm.

When contacted, Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser said that he would only follow rules and regulations and in consultation with legal and constitutional experts. About requisition in the national assembly, speaker of the national assembly repeated that he would follow rules and regulations in all the matters related to no-trust motion.

Parliamentary sources said that the government side would start debate on March 25 and table the no-trust motion on March 28. The opposition has to show 172 votes at the time of voting to make successful its no-trust motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan. According to the rules and procedures, all the lawmakers from the treasury and the opposition have equal right to participate in the voting process.

The parliamentary leaders from treasury benches have the right to write a letter against the member for floor-crossing to impose the defection clause on him/her. The Speaker National Assembly, as per the rules, would send the application to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for further process on it.
