rawalpindi - To develop responsible behaviour for a healthy environment at a community level, Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) launched Cleanliness and Dengue Eradication Campaign on Thursday.
This one-week long campaign is launched by the University Green Office of PMAS-AAUR in collaboration with Dengue Control Cell, to sensitise students regarding precautionary measures against dengue and the importance of cleanliness.
University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Qamar-uz-Zaman, deans, directors, all chairpersons, heads of teaching and non-teaching departments, faculty members, employees and a large number of students took part in this campaign. A walk led by university vice chancellor was also held in various parts of the university’s area to promote cleanliness and dengue eradication.
The participants held banners and placards, containing instructions and precautionary measures against dengue virus to make people aware of the importance of cleanliness. Special measures were also taken to ensure spraying and cleanliness of the university, hostels, market, mosque and residential colony on the instructions of the vice chancellor.
While addressing, the vice chancellor said that awareness could play a key role in fighting dengue as prevention is far better than cure. To combat dengue disease, students and faculty should focus on research so that we can have a dengue-free society, he added. He further stated that it is the prime responsibility of every individual to play his role in the provision of a clean environment and hoped the students and staff will continue this campaign regularly.
He also informed that a dengue control team has also started visiting the different areas of university premises to collect water samples for larvae of dengue mosquitoes. So far, the teams have not found any larvae from the university and its surroundings.
Earlier, the convener of the programme, Shahid Ali Khan, Director Planning and Incharge UGO highlighted the importance of a clean environment regarding Islam.
He also informed the gathering that this campaign is part of the Clean Green Pakistan Movement and hoped that this activity will be helpful to develop and promote responsible behaviour and attitudes for a healthy environment.
At the end of the first day, leaflets and waste bags were also distributed among participants and public on Murree Road.
