Questions over Islamabad police failure to maintain law and order

ISLAMABAD   -  Crime in the capital is cresting a height never seen before. Lawlessness in all forms is sweeping Islamabad. Land grabbing is becoming commonplace, as well as theft and robberies. Complaints are also piling up on ineffectiveness of 15 Emergency Helpline, which is unresponsive to emergency calls. In all of this, citizens of Islamabad ask where is the Police Chief? and where is Islamabad Police?

IG Muhammad Ahsan Younas and his team have come under heavy criticism by the opposition lawmakers for their failure to devise an effective strategy to deal with the law and order situation in the capital, especially during the current times of heightened political activity and emotions.

Apart from police failure in Sindh House, a surge in street crime in Islamabad is another big issue that is eclipsing the performance of the capital police. In Sihala, Koral, Bani Gala, Nellore, Shehzad Town, Bhara Kahu and Lohi Bhair areas, people are being killed and injured every day due to land grabbing and firing by armed men. The Capital police have become ineffective in controlling this fast-paced crime wave.

In just three months of 2022, hundreds of cases have been registered in each police station.

The police have set up separate departments of operations, investigation, watch and ward and car cell which are becoming practically ineffective in the current wave of crime.

More than 50 cases of crime are registered daily in 22 police stations including robbery, theft, kidnapping of women, check dishonor, murder, attempted murder, firing, seizure of lands and property. Many citizens complain that they are not even able to get their cases registered while others allege that there is little point in even registering
