Imran says will not accept vote result

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Imran Khan Saturday said that the legislators of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) would go to the National Assembly on Sunday (today) to attend the proceedings of the no-confidence motion against him.  He said it could be a surprise for the opposition parties.

Talking to legislators of his party at a dinner hosted by him, he said support for him started to increase after Pakistanis came to know about the conspiracy being hatched by the opposition leaders in collusion with the United States. He said Americans wanted to bring the opposition in power and they wanted to enslave the Pakistani nation with the use of money. He said he was confident about the outcome of the no-confidence motion against him and he could not imagine that he could lose power.

It was unfortunate that some politicians sold their conscience and people now knew about their faces circulating on the social media, he remarked. Imran Khan paid tribute to those who stood loyal to him despite the offers of money, adding he never was an anti America person and wanted good relations with all countries. He said opposition always wanted that he should give NRO to its leaders and after every few months tried to create instability in the country to save their wealth.

He said members from Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) were now contacting him, adding opposition consisted of thieves which looted the country for the last thirty years. He noted that PTI swept the local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim League(N) heavily lost the electoral contest.

Meanwhile in an interview with a private television, the Prime Minister said he had asked people to come out on the roads on Sunday against the traitors and thieves, adding he was happy that he did not have to see the faces of the traitors again. He further said leader of the opposition Shehbaz Sharif was sending a message that he was loyal to the United States.

Some people became part of the conspiracy unintentionally, he said adding after the local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the dissident politicians were now concerned about political future in their constituencies.

Talking about the international conspiracy against him, he said during an official meeting the United States official told Pakistani envoy that the US relations with Pakistan would only improve if Imran Khan was removed from power.

PM asks supporters to stage protests across country against ‘conspiracy’

To a question, he said the issue of foreign letter was not made public earlier because of the session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), adding it was honour for Pakistan that two meetings of OIC were held in Pakistan in recent months.

Talking about the options available to him in the present political scenario, he said there was no option but to hold early elections in the current environment. He recalled that he removed 20 persons of his party in 2018 for selling their votes in the Senate elections. He said Pakistan was going through a defining moment, adding

the foreign conspiracy against him was proved through the official document put before the National Security Committee.

To another question, he said the last government left the current account deficit of $ 20 billion and the economy was in dire situation when he assumed power.

He said he would fight till the last ball during the no confidence motion and Shehbaz Sharif would not succeed in becoming the prime minister.

He said Pakistan was the fifth largest country and no other country should try to dictate its foreign policy.

Nawaz Sharif met Hussain Haqqani who talked against Pakistan army, he told.

He regretted that he allowed Nawaz Sharif to leave the country on medical grounds and gave tickets to traditional politicians in 2018 elections.

Nawaz Sharif would only come back to the country if he thought that courts would end his cases, he commented. He said Parvez Elahi was a better candidate for the office of Chief Minister.

He said Pakistan needed army as an institution to secure its territorial integrity.  While discussing his visit to Russia, Imran Khan said he was looking to buy wheat and gas from Russia to meet the country’s needs.

He mentioned that the foreign powers did not stop India from trading with Russia and did not object to the relations of the two countries but objected to his visit to Russia.

The crucial sitting of the National Assembly will take place today (Sunday) for a voting on no-trust resolution that will decide the fate of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Ahead of voting, the security around the Parliament House has been beefed up with deploying police and paramilitary troops in the Red Zone of the capital and sealing the area.

PM Khan on Saturday was upbeat to defeat the opposition’s no-trust motion while answering the live calls of the people despite he, earlier this week, apparently lost majority in the lower house of the parliament after his government’s key ally MQM-P joined opposition ranks.

While reviewing its earlier strategy not to attend the NA session on voting day, PM Khan and the senior leadership of PTI decided that all MNAs belonging to the treasury would attend the special session and vote against the no-confidence resolution.

The ruling party decided that PM Khan himself would be attending the sitting and PTI MNAs would have their vote counted against the no-trust move in the house. Earlier, PM Imran in black and white had barred the party’s lawmakers from attending the NA session on the day of voting asking them that action would be taken under Article 63-A of the Constitution against those violating the directions.

A senior leader of the PTI said that the party has now decided to adopt an offensive approach by participating in the session instead of giving an easy walk over to the opposition by avoiding the voting process.

‘En bloc resignations’

As the ruling party is contemplating over different options not only to defeat the no-trust motion but also to give a tough time to the present opposition in future if it could not survive the no-trust vote. PM Khan is being advised by his close aides that one of the options is that PTI MNAs should give en bloc resignations from the NA to pay the way for early election.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed in his media interaction minced no words by saying that the PTI MNAs should resign en bloc to clear passage for early elections. He stressed that early polls were the only solution to bring the country out of the present political upheaval.

“There are only two options, one is that early elections should be held in the country,” he said and added, “If not, then the last option is that all PTI lawmakers (in NA) should resign en masse (to pave the way for early polls).”

He also urged the powerful establishment to intervene in the present political crisis of the country so that early polls should be called immediately either after Eidul Fitr or Eidul Azha. “I want to appeal to the institutions that it is now a matter of the survival of the country,” he said, urging the establishment to play its role.

The interior minister while referring to the opposition leadership said that those should be tried for treason who are part of an international conspiracy to dislodge an elected government. He added that the corrupt opposition parties which allegedly took foreign money to initiate the no-confidence should be banned.

Referring to Article 94 of the Constitution, Sheikh Rashid said that even if the no-confidence motion against PM Khan succeeds, the premier can continue to hold office until a new leader of the house is elected. He underlined that the Constitution was silent on how long the outgoing PM would continue to hold his office until the new leader of the house takes oath.

Article 94 of the Constitution states that the “President can ask the Prime Minister to continue to hold office until his successor enters upon the office of Prime Minister.”

‘Conspiracy against the country’

Prime Minister Imran Khan also said that Pakistan is passing through a defining moment of history and we must choose the right path.

He said this in a special message to the youth before responding to people’s live telephone calls in a program ‘Apka Wazeer-e-Azam, Apke Sath’ on Saturday.

The Prime Minister said it is a war of the country’s future and the nation has to decide which way to take the country from now onwards.

Calling upon the youth to stand up for the future of the country, he asked them to hold a peaceful protest against the conspiracy made against the country.  He urged the people to come forward and record their protest without any confrontation.

Responding a to a caller’s question, the Prime Minister said consultations are being made with the government’s legal team to take action against those politicians who were involved in this conspiracy to oust the elected government.

He said two forces are keeping the country united, one is our strong and determined Army and the other is Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, which is the only national party representative of the whole nation.   He said we will not allow any propaganda campaign succeed against Pakistan Army, who has rendered matchless sacrifices for the defence of the motherland.

To a question regarding economic situation of the country, he said economic experts  must sit and analyse the economic indicators of the past two governments and the incumbent government of PTI.   He said today the whole world is facing inflation due to after effects of COVID-19 but despite that our economy has showed positive trajectory.

He made mention of the record remittances by overseas Pakistanis due to their trust in the PTI government. He said the exports have also remained record high.

Talking to an overseas caller, Imran Khan said as long as the nation stands united no conspiracy against the country can succeed.

The Prime Minister said he will defeat tomorrow’s no confidence motion. He said the people will never allow corrupt politicians rule the country again. He said PTI’s popularity is evident in the clean sweep victory in KP Local bodies elections.

Responding to a caller’s question regarding foreign policy, Imran Khan said friendly ties with all countries and national interest as top most priority is the key pillar of our independent foreign policy.

The program was broadcast live on Radio Pakistan’s National Hookup and all its social media platforms.
