Lt Gen, among six officers, martyred in helicopter crash

ISLAMABAD    -    The Pakistan Army he­licopter that had gone missing Monday eve­ning in Balochistan during flood relief op­eration, crashed, leav­ing six military per­sonnel martyred as the wreckage of the unfor­tunate helicopter was found in Musa Goth, Windar, Lasbela, con­firmed the ISPR Direc­torate yesterday. Commander Southern Com­mand Lt Gen Sarfraz Ali, who embraced martyrdom in the helicopter crash, was known as best and distinguished ca­reer officer of Pakistan Army. He was commissioned in 6 Azad Kashmir Regiment in March 1989 and served for 33 years in Pak Army. During his service in the Pakistan army, he held top positions including DG Military Intel­ligence, IG FC Quetta, com­mandant command and staff college Quetta, commander 111 Brigade Rawalpindi, and defence adviser Pakistan em­bassy in Washington DC.Lt Gen Sarfraz was resident of Lahore, married and left be­hind a widow, one daughter and two sons. Lt Gen Sarfraz received gallantry awards twice during the war on ter­ror. He was also awarded Tamgha-i-Basalat twice and was considered as one of the best three star general offi­cers of the Pakistan Army. Pakistan Coast Guard Direc­tor General, Major Gener­al Amjad Hanif was resident of Rawalakot Azad Kashmir. He was commissioned in 19 Azad Kashmir Regiment in April 1994 and served for 29 years in Pak Army.
