LAHORE - Additional District and Sessions Judge Shazib Saeed yesterday awarded 48-year jail to a man for burning his wife to death in South Cantonment six years ago.
Sharafat Ali set his wife Nasreen on fire by using kerosene oil over a petty issue. Nasreen fell severely injured and was shifted to Mayo Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Munir Ahmad, the brother of deceased woman, lodged FIR with South Cantonment police against her sister’s husband Sharafat Ali, mother-in-law Hameeda and brother-in-law Akram. He said they killed her sister and pursued the case.
Police, in challan, said that the suspects used kerosene oil to set the victim ablaze.
In his verdict, the judge awarded collective punishment to convict Sharafat Ali under different laws. The judge also imposed fine of Rs 200,000 on him, holding that that he would undergo six months more imprisonment if he failed to deposit the amount of fine.
However, the court acquitted her mother-in-law Hameed and brother-in-law Akram by giving them benefit of doubt.
