Clean up mess or go home, Bilawal tells PM Imran

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan People’s Party chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari yesterday asked the government to clean up the ‘mess’ or go home and do not hide behind the National Assembly.

The PPP chief said that the government did not take the opposition into confidence on any matter during the last many days but was not expecting the National Assembly to resolve the issue when it was getting out of control.

“The agreement wasn’t brought to the National Assembly. The government took action on streets, then banned (the Tehrik-e-Labbaik Pakistan), people were killed, over 500 policemen were injured, closed was internet (but) the PM (Imran Khan) didn’t make statement in NA,” he said in a tweet.

Bilawal added: “The PM didn’t take NA into confidence at any stage. Now the PTI wants to hide behind NA. It’s your mess, PM, clean up or go home.”

The PPP also decided to boycott the National Assembly session which had been summoned to table a resolution on the expulsion of the French ambassador.

Meanwhile, a resolution on expulsion of French Ambassador to Pakistan over blasphemous caricatures issue was presented during the NA session.

PTI leader Amjad Ali Khan presented the resolution in the lower house of the parliament. Members of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) attended the session and represented their respective parties. However, PPP members boycotted the proceedings.

PPP Vice President Senator Sherry Rehman said there was a crisis everywhere in the country and nothing was being done except to “save the seat.”

“The government has lost its majority. Neither the federal government nor the Punjab provincial government seem to survive. The government allies will quit today or tomorrow. They will not even have enough numbers to pass the budget,” she said.

The Senator also criticized the government’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. “On April 17, the highest number of deaths due to corona (149) was recorded this year. The number of critically ill patients is 30% higher than in June 2020. Oxygen supply is limited and SOPs are not being implemented. Despite this, Pakistan has the slowest vaccination campaign in Asia,” she pointed out.
