ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Finance Shaukat Tarin in the ministerial committee on power crisis opposed the rental power project vehemently saying the countrys financial resources could not afford it. According to sources, in the meeting of the ministerial committee on power crisis, which met Thursday night at the Parliament House, Minister for Finance Shaukat Tarin and Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf were at odds over the rental plants. Federal Ministers Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo, Shaukat Tarin, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Syed Khurshid Shah attended the meeting that pondered over ways of tackling the ongoing power crisis in the country on a war footing. According to the sources, in the meeting the Finance Minister expressed his serious reservations over rental power plants terming them very costly. Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin told the committee that rental power project was not feasible in the current financial situation of the country, said the sources. The sources said that Federal Minister for Water and Power, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf wanted to get approval of the ministerial committee over rental power plants so that the proposal could be approved by ECC in its meeting on Friday (today). However after resistance by Finance Minister, the ministerial committee did not give its nod to the rental power plants.
