Lakkis unlucky for water


LAKKI MARWAT - Residents of Mohallah Haqdad Abad held a demonstration in Kargil Chowk on Tuesday to record their protest against the shortage of drinking water and failure of municipal committee' authorities to resolve the problem.
The protesters wore black bands round their arms and they assembled in Kargil chowk on Lakki-Darra Tang road and chanted slogans against the officials of civic body.   Elders Fazil Khan, Gul Faraz Aajiz, Salim Khan and others said that the entire locality was under the grip of acute shortage of potable drinking water for the last three months.
"We brought the matter into the notice of quarters concerned but to no avail," they maintained. They told that Waris Khan water supply scheme was out of order since last several months, which had caused the serious problem of scarcity of water in the urban locality.
Elders said that they were optimistic that the PTI provincial government would ensure provision of clean drinking water and other basic facilities to the people but it could not deliver in a better way. They warned that residents of the locality would have no option other than to launch a protest campaign if provision of drinking water was not ensured forthwith.
SMUGGLING BID FOILED
Police on Tuesday claimed to have foiled narcotics' smuggling bid and arrested two people with huge quantity of opium.
An official said that DPO Abdul Rashid Khan was informed about the possible attempt of smuggling opium from the adjacent tribal region. "Upon that a police party of Shaheed Asmatullah Khan Khattak Police Station of Naurang town barricaded Shah Tora Takhtikhel road leading to the tribal area and started searching vehicles and suspects," he told. He said that the law enforcers stopped a suspected vehicle coming from the tribal region and seized 560kg opium from it. He told that police arrested two people onboard identified as Afsar Khan and Noor Shah Ali and also impounded the vehicle.
"A case was registered under relevant section of law and investigation was started," he maintained.
Meanwhile, a man was gunned down over a domestic dispute in Hayatkhel village, said police. Police said that the murder incident took place in the vicinity of Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan police station of Darra Pezu town. They said that the accused including Ghulam Baqi Jan and his son Zeeshan shot and killed Buzrjamher and escaped.
Police registered a case against the killers on the complaint of Haji Muhammad Ishaq, uncle of the deceased and began investigation.
