Two mega cities on the cards: Khattak


PESHAWAR - Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has said that two mega cities of international standards with all facilities of modern lifestyle are being established on Motorway M-1 near Colonel Sher Khan Shaheed Interchange and Abbottabad. This he said while chairing a meeting of Provincial Housing Department at his office on Tuesday.
He said that it was vision of the Chairman Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Imran Khan to provide modern residential facilities to the public of the province at affordable prices.
Secretary Housing Department gave a detailed briefing to the participants of the meeting on various aspects of the mega city projects. The project of a proposed mega city on Motorway M-1 will be completed at an estimated cost of Rs45.80 billion on 45,000 kanal land.
This mega city will have all the facilities of modern civic facilities, including education complex, medical complex, five/seven star hotel, commercial zone, police station, Mosques, Apartments, Golf course, theme parks, petrol/CNG stations, play grounds, green belts, wide roads, electricity, sui gas and others. It will serve a population of more than 602130.
Addressing the meeting, the chief minister termed the project as of great importance and directed the authorities concerned to prepare the final plan of the project within fifteen days so that the same could be approved formally.
He said that the proposed mega city would be first of its nature not only in the province but in the country as well. The meeting was told that because of its unique and important location the mega city would become a hub of commercial and business activities. Public private partnership or any other feasible mood of implementation will be adopted/decided for the project.
The chief minister directed the authorities of housing department to take necessary steps for the acquisition of land for the proposed mega city at Abbottabad.
Besides others Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Housing Department Amjad Afridi, Additional Chief Secretary, Planning and Development Khalid Pervez, Additional Chief Secretary Finance Sahibzada Saeed, Secretary Housing Zahid Arif, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Ashfaq Khan In-charge of Investment Cell, Rafaqullah Babar, Deputy Commissioner Nowshehra and other concerned authorities attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, the CM formally inaugurated the monsoon tree plantation campaign 2013 by planting a sapling at the lawn of Chief Minister House Peshawar. Provincial Senior Minister Sirajul Haq, Secretary Environment Saeed Badshah Bukhari, Chief Conservator forest and other relevant quarters were also present on the occasion. The CM was told on the occasion that the provincial forest department had set a target of planting more than 8.9 million saplings during the campaign. The Chief Minister directed the authorities concerned to do away with the traditional approach of forestation and evolve local community to make the campaign successful. He stressed upon the public to actively participate in the tree plantation campaign.
