LAHORE - In a sarcastic comment on the retirement of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, former Prime Minister, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said here on Friday that a ‘politician had left the judiciary’.
Talking to the media after the launch of Fozia Hussain Qureshi’s book on Multan’s  civilisation, the former Prime Minister, also a victim of Iftikhar Chaudhry’s judgements, said that from now onwards, the judiciary would speak through its decisions.
“Those having penchant for making headlines in the media have become part of the history now”, he remarked, adding, that Iftikhar Ch had left the dictators far behind in sending a democratic govt home.
He further stated that dictators who sacked the previous elected governments had the justification under Article 58-2b of the Constitution; but the former Chief Justice, he added, took an unconstitutional step by sacking an elected Prime Minister.
Talking about the NAB cases against him, he reiterated his stance that no decision taken by a Prime Minister could be challenged in the court of law because the Constitution provided him the immunity from prosecution.
“I am not bound under the Constitution to appear before the NAB which has no authority to investigate a former Prime Minister”, he affirmed, adding, that he had taken all decisions as the then Prime Minister, and the Constitution provided him the immunity.
“The NAB should know this all”, he maintained.
Asked to comment on Interior Minister Ch Nisar’s statement, he said that PPP was playing the role of a responsible Opposition and was not supportive of any demand regarding mid-term polls.
He, however, said that many things would come to light in the days to come about the failures of the present government.
