Slang is the street language or the common language that we all use. Use of these words and phrases is typically associated with the subversion of a standard variety and is likely to be interpreted by listeners as implying particular attitudes on the part of the speaker. Here are some of the very common slangs, we Pakistanis use:
1. Scene on hai
This expression is an ultimate declaration of excitement.
It serves two purposes.
a) It is mostly used among closest of friends when a ‘meet-up plan’ is finalized. It is like saying ‘It’s time to party’.
b) When a friend is involved in a romantic relationship with someone.
2. Chill karo
It is the Urdu slang for “take a chill pill”. This expression is used when a person is stressed or irritated to calm them down.
3. Meter ghoom jana
This expression is used to demonstrate the action of immense rage and temper.
4. Miss hona
This expression is used to express dissatisfaction. It could be used with reference to a product or a person.
5. Screw dheela hona
This expression is used to represent a person with a tendency to act crazy.
6. Burger bacha/ Mummy daddy
This expression is used to correspond to certain kind of people who are 'not into' desi or traditional stuff. It’s an Urdu adaptation of ‘wannabes’.
7. Jugaarh lagana
This expression is used in situations where one looks for a solution for a problem by hook or by crook.
8. Chuss maarna
This expression is spoken in response to a something silly or juvenile said by someone. Expression is used among friends mostly.
9. Miss/Ditch karana
This expression is used to show lack of interest in an activity and then cancellation of your plan concerning it.
10. Shahzada laga hai
This expression is used when you mock a friend when they are boasting about something insignificant.
