Missing facilities at judicial complex irk CJP

MULTAN - Chief Justice (CJ) Saqib Nisar on Wednesday expressed his displeasure and astonishment over the missing facilities in New Judicial Complex here on Wednesday.

However, he assured the protesting lawyers that their issues relating to the Judicial Complex would be resolved very soon. The CJ came Multan on a one-day visit and reached Lahore High Court Multan Bench, New Judicial Complex and Old Kachehri besides holding a meeting with the protesting lawyers. The sources said that the issues like lawyers’ sit-in and shifting of the courts to the new Judicial Complex caused CJP’s Multan visit. He was accorded a warm welcome and guard of honour on his arrival at the LHC Multan Bench. A four-member delegation of Pakistan Bar Council also accompanied the CJ.

The lawyers briefed him about the problems and issues being faced by them during his visit to New Judicial Complex. They pointed out that the complex did not have even a single chamber for any lawyer while it was also without bar room, library and shelter for the litigants. They demanded the CJ direct the authorities concerned to withdraw the decision of shifting lower courts to the New Judicial Complex and bring courts back to the old Kachehri.

Earlier, strict security arrangements were made by the police on arrival of the CJP. Heavy police contingents performed security duty during CJP’s visit. Judges of LHC including Justice Ameer Uddin Khan, Justice Masood Jahangir, Justice Baqir Najfi and others received the CJP on his arrival. A large number of lawyers also gathered on the occasion and raised slogans in CJP’s favour.
