Sindh High Court seeks report on wheat production, consumption in Sindh

KARACHI - The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday sought a detailed report on wheat production and consumption in Sindh.

A high court bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, heard a petition filed against flour & wheat crisis, smuggling, and hoarding. 

“Why don’t you give a written answer despite repeated instructions,” Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar inquired with a food department lawyer.

The court sought full details of wheat production and consumption in Sindh and also ordered secretary food department to present details in the next hearing. Later, the court adjourned the hearing till February 17.

The flour crisis has emerged across the country following inflation spike, the petition said. It stated the current flour crisis had artificially been created, and it was revealed that flour was smuggled abroad during the last six months, as mafia planed to earn billions of rupees. The government failed to overcome the flour crisis, the petition said

The petitioner pleaded the court to order formation of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate artificial flour crisis and requested it to sought details of flour smuggling during the last six months.
