Zardari vows to ensure Parliament’s supremacy

Bilawal says struggle to achieve BB’s mission of democratic system to continue

ISLAMABAD   -  Former president Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday said that PPP would ensure the Parliament’s supremacy as the PPP celebrated late Benazir Bhutto’s birthday.

Zardari paid homage to Benazir Bhutto and renewed pledge to follow her mission and follow the philosophy of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto.

“We will continue to fight for the rule of the Constitution and the supremacy of parliament,” he said. Zardari said that birthday celebrations of Benazir Bhutto were being held all over the world which proved that the nation had not forgotten its great leader.

“The ideology for which Benazir Bhutto sacrificed her life is a beacon for us. Conspiracies are being hatched today against the 18th Amendment, Parliament is being disrespected, media is being restricted and freedom of expression is being curtailed. But we are committed to fight those who hate democracy,” he added.

Zardari said that today every section of the society, especially the youth were disappointed. “The PPP will end these frustrations and disappointments,” he said.

Zardari said that Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari like his grandfather Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and mother Benazir Bhutto would

be with the people at every step and would continue to raise voice for the rights of the people.

“Today we pledge to build a Pakistan where there will be peace, human freedom, democracy will be strong, rule of Constitution will prevail and only Parliament will be empowered,” he said.

Meanwhile, PPP chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said his mother Benazir Bhutto had sacrificed her life for the sake of democracy.

He said the PPP would continue struggle to achieve Benazir Bhutto’s mission of a democratic system.

Bilawal also paid tribute to his father Asif Ali Zardari on International Father’s Day.

“Asif Ali Zardari spent 12 years in jail without any charges for restoration of democracy. He restored the 1973 Constitution through the 18th Amendment. Asif Ali Zardari laid the foundation of Pak-China Economic Corridor,” he said.

Bilawal said Zardari had done a lot, including launching the Benazir Income Support Programme for the poor.

Separately, the PPP held a function here to celebrate Benazir Bhutto’s birthday.
