A clash between two student organisations at the Punjab University left as many five people injured on Tuesday, reported Waqt News citing police sources.

Students of the Islami Jamiat Taleba (IJT) allegedly tried to halt a Pushtoon cultural event, said a police spokesman. This ensued in a brawl in which five people were injured.

Media reports also say that the Pushtoon students were dancing on their traditional tunes when the IJT attacked them leading to a massive brawl.

Following the clash, said the spokesman, police reached the campus and used tear gas to disperse the violent crowd. The five injured were shifted to Jinnah hospital for medical treatment.

A provincial minister said the cultural show was being held with the university administration. “But IJT had issues with the event so they tried to halt it," said Law Minister Rana Sanaullah.

He said measures are being taken to make sure the culprits are brought to justice. “It is sad that Sirajul Haq’s own people are involved in such incidents even though he talks about National Action Plan and fighting terrorism.”
