ISLAMABAD - Non-responsiveness of the Islamabad police department is leading to pervasive and intractable violent crime in the federal capital.
The security situation in Islamabad, which was already precarious due to a drastic surge in street crime coupled with rising incidents of land grabbing, now it has deteriorated significantly in the first few months of 2022.
Citizen grievances include running pillar to post to complaints and first information reports filed with police, but a lack of quick response by the police in Islamabad is causing irreparable harm by emboldening criminal elements.
“We are poor and helpless people and can’t confront with powerful police of the federal capital,” said a victim on condition of anonymity, adding, “we had heard a lot about strict command and justice system of IG Muhammad Ahsan Younas but all proved hollow and a nightmare for us as he (IG) is seemingly failed in taking action against accused and providing us with justice.” Crime and harassment continues to haunt citizens of Islamabad, who have no recourse but the police, where they continue to face disappointment despite the promises of the incumbents. No letup in street and other crimes in Islamabad.
As many as 42 cases of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, assault and property crimes, including robberies and auto thefts, were registered by the capital police in last 24 hours, according to sources. One M. Salim lodged a complaint with Police Station Tarnol that three persons armed with pistols and daggers attacked his brother Yousaf and killed him on the spot. He added they also injured others and fled from the scene.
One lady H. Riaz lodged her complaint with Kohsar police station stating she was robbed off cash, purse and other valuables by dacoits at F-6 Markaz. After committing the crime, the dacoits managed to escape from the scene, she said. Similarly, auto theft gangs stole three cars and eight motorcycles from various areas of the capital. Dacoits also deprived three citizens of cash, mobile phones and other valuables. A person was also kidnapped from the capital by unknown kidnappers.
