KARACHI -Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has indicated at restoration of Special Excise Duty (SED) in the upcoming budget for fiscal 2014-15 A proposal on levying SEC on local products has been floated by FBR. Sources said the proposal is designed for recovery of hefty amount. However no decision has been taken so far to clamp SEC in the budget for the fiscal 2014-15. SED was recovered at the rate of 2.5 percent in the past but the government had abolished 2.5 percent SED in the financial year 2011-12 through an amendment in Federal Excise Act-2005.
