Rs 2.1m daylight heist in front of RPO office

Rawalpindi - A gang of four dacoits snatched Rs 2.1 million at gunpoint from the manager and cashier of a petrol pump in front of the office of Regional Police Officer (RPO) in broad daylight yesterday.
The dacoits fled after plundering the cash while shooting gunshots into air while no cop dared to stop the intruders, the sources said.
According to sources, Rafaq Ali and Fahad Amir, the manager and cashier respectively, were going on motorcycle to deposit Rs 2.1 million to a local bank at 12:00pm when four unknown dacoits who too were riding on motorcycles intercepted them in front of RPO Office at gunpoint and snatched cash.
Upon calling, a heavy contingent of police rushed to the scene, collected evidence and recorded the statements of witnesses. The victim manager lodged complaint with Police Station Civil Line.
Investigation officer Sub-Inspector Amjad Pervaiz, when contacted, confirmed the incident and said, “So far we are investigating the incident and have not yet registered the FIR.”
On the other hand, unknown robbers looted four houses in one night at Harniyali Syedan village of Chontra, a villager told The Nation on request of anonymity.
According to him, the robbers looted gold, cash, mobile phones and other valuables from four houses. He said the house robberies in the village have become a routine matter while police are not taking action against robbers.
SHO police station Chontra, Tanvir Warraich denied the incident, saying no house robbery was committed in the jurisdiction of his police station. He said that police had lodged only one FIR against an Afghan national who was arrested during a search operation.
Meanwhile, a gang of three armed dacoits entered a post office located at Committee Chowk and made the entire staff hostage at gunpoint.
Later, the dacoits collected Rs 100,000 cash and ran away. Police reached the crime scene and collected evidence.
Police also recorded statements of the officials. The incident occurred in the limits of police station Waris Khan.
