ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Secretary Information Marriyam Aurangzeb while rejecting recent amendments made to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016 through a presidential ordinance said that PML-N would oppose it at all forums.
Addressing a press conference at the party‘s secretariat, Marriyam said that PML-N would challenge “this black and draconian law” inside and outside the Parliament. She said that the law would be challenged in the Supreme Court and high court.
“Prime Minister Imran Khan has made these draconian amendments to the law to mentally enslave 220 million people of Pakistan,” she remarked,
She said that such black laws were against the Constitution and national and international laws related to media and human rights.
The former information minister said these black laws were an expression of “PM Imran Khan’s hatred and tyrant mindset against journalists who speak truth to power and political opponents.”
She said the biggest problems of the people were inflation, unemployment, economic strife and government’s corruption. “Such oppressive laws would not stop this criticism because people are suffering every hour of every day under this imposed PTI regime.”
Marriyam claimed that PTI members, who were not in a position to face the people of their constituencies, were joining hands with opposition parties in bringing no-confidence motion in collaboration with Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM). She said that preparations for the no-confidence motion had been completed, and it would be brought in due course of time.
She said her statement about the phone-calls from Peshawar was very clear, concise and detailed. It is therefore important that this practice must stop otherwise PML-N would categorically take names of the people in public, she said.
