Former Army Chief and president General (retired) Pervez Musharraf has resigned as chairman of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML).
Dr Muhammad Amjad said so when he was talking to media on Friday. Dr Amjad told media that Musharraf has sent his resignation to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). It was no longer possible for Musharraf to run party matters from abroad.
Moreover, due to different cases registered against him, he couldn't return back to Pakistan.
The party has sent a formal request to the ECP notifying about the change in its chairmanship. However, Musharraf will remain as supreme leader of the party.
Furthermore, he told that Musharraf has nominated him [Dr Amjad] as the new chairman of APML.
Earlier this week, the Election Commission rejected Musharraf’s nomination papers for NA-1 Chitral, after the Supreme Court withdrew its conditional approval for the former ruler to file nomination papers for the upcoming general election after he failed to appear before the court.
The former president had founded his party, All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) in 2010. Musharraf had boycotted general elections of 2013.
