CJ admonishes IG in police promotion cases

LAHORE – The Lahore High Court Chief Justice on Wednesday reproached the Inspector General of Police for defying court orders and sought the names of the police officers who had put hurdles in the way of implementation of judicial orders.
Chief Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed was hearing the contempt petition of Inspector Muhmmad Sarwar and others seeking promotions. IG Habibur Rehman appeared in the court and tried to seek more time for obeying the court orders.
The CJ admonish the IG over his request as the petitioners were wandering from pillar to post for the last many years, but the police department was not giving them promotions.
“The court would not tolerate the behaviour of police and others for not implementing its orders. Tell the names of those officers who are the main problem in the implementation our orders. They court may indict them in contempt of court over their actions,” the CJ observed.
