Young docs strike again

LAHORE - Young Doctors Association staged protest demonstrations in three major cities yesterday to press for their demands of service structure, time-scale promotion, withdrawal of 15 percent cut in health budget, and regulation of medicine prices.
The YDA’s Muzaffargarh and Sheikhupura chapters protested outside DHQ hospitals to convey a strong message to the government. Mayo Hospital chapter staged a demonstration outside the health facility from where the protesters marched to the Punjab Assembly where they staged a sit-in.
Led by Dr Shaharyar Ali Khan, dozens of doctors staged a sit-in for more than an hour, causing massive traffic jam on The Mall and adjoining roads at peak hours.
Carrying placards and banners inscribed with their demands, the protesting doctors chanted slogans against the government.
Also, absence of doctors caused huge inconvenience to the patients visiting Mayo Hospital. They were left with no other option except to approach other public sector hospitals or nearby private healthcare institutions for treatment.
