In light of the ongoing situation of novel coronavirus, the Punjab government has imposed a two-day lockdown in Lahore, Islamabad and a few other areas. The lockdown will remain in effect from Saturday to Sunday, May 22 and 23.
The inter-provincial and inter-city transport will remain suspended; however, petrol pumps, medical stores and dairy shops will be allowed to continue operations.
The decision has been taken in light of the surging number of deaths and positive cases across Pakistan. In the last 24 hours, a total of 88 deaths by novel coronavirus has been reported. Moreover the number of has risen to 897,468 as well.
It is reported on Saturday that the nationwide mortality count has surged to 20,177.
As per the latest statistics shared by the NCOC, at least 4,007 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in a single day.
In terms of a comparative analysis amongst provinces, Punjab remains the most severely hit province with respect to the number of deaths and positive cases followed by Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
So far, a total of 9,739 individuals in Punjab have lost their lives, 4,891 in Sindh, 3,900 in KP, 744 in Islamabad, 526 in Azad Kashmir, 270 in Balochistan, and 107 in GB, all owing to the deadly pandemic.
