Five gangsters killed in encounters

KARACHI - Law enforcement agencies claimed to have shot dead five gangsters including the top-most notorious Lyari gangsters in separate encounters here on Friday.
Two gangsters were killed in an alleged encounter with the paramilitary force in Lyari.
The encounter took place when the Rangers conducted an intelligence-based targeted operation to hunt down the top-most gangster of Lyari in various parts of Lyari. During the operation, two of the key criminals - one from Baba Ladla and the other one from Uzair Baloch gang - were killed.
They were later identified as Faiz Muhammad alias Lala Orangi and Muhammad Naeem aka Kalakot.
Rangers spokesperson said the gangsters were killed when the Rangers conducted targeted raid at Aath Chowk area of Lyari. They opened indiscriminate fire at the Rangers and tried to flee when Rangers personnel retaliated and managed to kill two gangsters. Few of their companions managed to escape under the cover of fire. Rangers spokesperson claimed that the killed gangster Faiz Muhammad was the most-wanted area commander of Baba Ladla Group and was also involved in more than 59 killings and other crimes. Naeem was also involved in 42 cases of murders including the killing of ex-councilor of PPP, Jamil. It also claimed to have recovered weapons from their possession.
Sources privy to the matter revealed that gangster Lala Orangi was killed in an alleged encounter as he was picked up and kept detain by the security agency few days ago. He was one of the high-profile commanders of the Lyari gang war. After the division between Uzair Baloch and Baba Ladla groups, Lala Orangi had joined the Baba Ladla group and working against Uzair’s group. Sources said his group members were also not happy with him as he had also been involved in various immoral activities.
In another similar raid, Rangers claimed to have killed another gangster, who was later identified as Younus alias Madi, during an encounter in Singu Lane area of Lyari. He was associated with the Ustad Taju group of Lyari’s Uzair Baloch group. He was involved in more than 40 cases of murders including of five political party’s workers and a police officer Riaz Tanoli.
Similarly, Lyari police claimed to have killed another key commander of the Lyari gang war Nadeem aka Japan Wala during an alleged encounter at Purana Haji Camp, Lyari. SSP Sheraz Nazeer said the killed gangster was associated with the Baba Ladla group of Lyari gangsters. He was the main accused in the Jhat Pat market attack in which 16 people including 12 women and children were killed. SSP Nazeer said Nadeem was also involved in killing a policeman namely Zaman in 2009. He had also killed more than 60 people including his brother Jahanzeb.
In Mehmoodabad, Crime Investigation Department (CID) police killed a gangster during an alleged encounter in Chanesar Goth. CID police officials said the encounter took place when the CID personnel conducted a raid at the hideout of the gangsters.
The gangsters resorted to indiscriminate fire to avoid arrest. During an exchange of fire, one gangster was killed while his accomplices managed to flee. The gangster was later identified as Sardar Saqib. He was associated with slain Ashok Kumar Group. He was wanted to the police in more than 20 cases of murders including of a policeman.
Meanwhile, a suspect was killed during an exchange of fire with the police in Federal B Area. Police said the encounter took place when two suspects were trying to escape after looting a local restaurant in the area. Police personnel on routine patrol reached the site and killed one of the criminals after an exchange of fire. His companion managed to escape under the cover of fire. The body was later moved to morgue for identification after autopsy at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
