Another session of fuss

LAHORE - The Opposition in Punjab Assembly yesterday threatened to continue with protest during the house proceedings till the acceptance of their demands over Panama leaks.

The house witnessed hullabaloo during the proceedings like the most part of the week as the opposition on the opening session had decided not to let the government run official business until their concerns were addressed.

Treasury and Opposition members exchanged charges and slogans against each other’s leadership, while several opposition members also accused the speaker of playing partisan role.

Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed started protest against the ruling party leaders when they accused Imran Khan of misappropriation of Shaukat Khanum Caner Hospital funds and demanding accountability.

The PPP joined the PTI as its leaders also announced that they would take to the streets against the government.

PPP legislator Makhdoom Shahabuddin announced that PPP is also ready to go on protest against the government.

PPP would also give a call for protest on December 27 if the four demands made by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari are not met within the deadline, he warned.

On a point of order, the Opposition leader demanded that Treasury members should refrain from making allegations against Shaukat Khanum hospital to gain political mileage.

Meanwhile, the ruling MPs started chanting slogans “Weep Imran Weep”. The opposition members chanted slogans “Go Nawaz Go and Nawaz Sharif offer yourself for accountability”.

The commotion continued despite repeated requests and calls by the Speaker Rana Iqbal to maintain order in the house.

Earlier, the parliamentary secretary Nawaz Chohan and Karim Langrial replied to members queries during the Question Hour on Transport, Planning and Development.

While the questions on Social Welfare and Baitul Maal deferred because of the absence of minister and parliamentary secretary concerned. The proceedings were later adjourned by the chair for 3:00 pm Monday.

PML-Q to back PTI

Former Punjab CM Pervez Elahi announced support to PTI protest in Islamabad, NNI reported.

Everyone must support Imran Khan in fight against corruption, he said adding that Pakistanis should be one under the leadership of Khan since he was trying to save the country from the corrupt.

The PTI will stage a protest in the federal capital on November 2 to mount pressure on ruling Sharif family to present themselves for accountability over the issue of Panama leaks.
