RAWALPINDI-The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) on Tuesday welcomed the proposal for collecting single digit General Sales Tax (GST) which in turn would offer relief to the commoners.
RCCI President Dr Shimail Daud Arain, while commenting on a news report by a section of press, observed that the fresh approach of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on the collection of GST was highly appreciable which will not only benefit the business community but also the general public, if implemented. He said that the step would help considerably curtail the tax percentage thus enlarging the tax net. He said with the inclusion of fresh taxpayers, the gap between tax revenue and tax percentage would be plugged. Shimail pointed out that fresh legislation to check rampant trends of tax evasion was need of the hour with the approach to bring all those well- to- do in the tax net without any discrimination. Not only this, but also there was a dire need for enacting strict laws to check the theft of utilities including electricity and gas and issuance of new connection for the facilities be made mandatory for those who are regular tax payers.
He said that public awareness campaign be launched to educate the people on promotion of tax culture.
