PHC shuts down 52 centres of quackery

LAHORE - The Punjab Healthcare Commission has shut down 52 centres of quacks in seven cities during the last week.

Also, an FIR was registered against a quack named Abdul Shakoor, and he was arrested by Chunian police for illegally reopening his Shakoor Clinic after it was sealed by a PHC team in July this year. While continuing with the anti-quackery drive, the PHC enforcement teams raided 498 treatment centres. Besides the sealed ones, 198 centres have been marked for surveillance, whereas 28 qualified physicians were treating patients at an equal number of centres, which were previously considered to be run by quacks. Also, 184 quackery outlets got different businesses.

Among the centres closed down, 10 were in Chakwal, nine in Jhang, Khanewal and Muzaffargarh each, six in Lahore and Faisalabad each, and three in Rawalpindi. In the city, Rasheed Clinic, Defence Dental Care, Babar Dental Care, Al-Rehman Homoeopathic Clinic, Guardian Home and Bismillah Medical and Homeopathic Store were shut down.
