2005 all over again?

The ailing humanity in Swat, Malakand and Buner is gasping for breath under charge of the paralyzed governance at all levels. The Pakistani nation has proved once again that when the need be, it can work its heart out to help the calamity-stricken brethren. Our leadership, that is comprised of only looters, though, is not willing to rehabilitate the people of Swat. These penniless poor people will soon start the journey back to their homes. It is an obligation of the government to leave no stone unturned for facilitating that return but nobody expects the government to deliver. When the October 8, 2005 earthquake devastated Azad Kashmir, aid from all over the world poured in for the rehabilitation. But most of it was misappropriated on the way to satisfy the greed of our corrupt rulers. I plead the government to monitor the distribution of goods and services to redeem these 3. 5 million IDPs. -ALI JAWAD BHATTI, Sargodha, via e-mail, July 12.
