GUJRANWALA-Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday urged the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to bring to justice those who caused inordinate delay in the completion of important Nandipur Power Project‚ causing huge losses to the national exchequer.
Talking to the media persons during his visit to Nandipur Power project here, the chief minister said that almost 95 percent machinery of the project had reached the site from Karachi port and the construction work would be started soon.
“Early completion of the power projects is of great importance for the growth of economy as unnecessary delay in the execution of the project critically damaged the economy in the past,” he pointed out, adding that the present government would ensure timely completion of all such projects to mitigate the sufferings caused by the energy crisis.
MNA Mehmood Bashir Virk, MPAs - Pir Ghulam Farid, Abdul Rauf Moghal, Imran Khalid Butt, RPO Saad Akhter Bharwana, Divisional Commissioner Shamail Ahmed Khawaja, Gujranwala DCO Azmat Mehmood and other officers were also present on the occasion.
Shahbaz Sharif alleged that the previous government delayed the projects for ‘what he called’ political purposes due to which the country had to suffered losses of hundreds of thousands of dollars. The NAB should take notice of the matter and responsible persons should be brought to the book,” he averred.
On the occasion, the Punjab CM also met the officers of Chinese Company Dong Foung Electric and emphasized upon the need of early completion of this project. The CM was informed by the official concerned that transmission line to connect the project to national system was about to complete.
Shahbaz Sharif reiterated the government resolution to complete the project about six months ahead of the deadline. “An amount of 325 million dollars will be spent on this project which upon completion will add 425 megawatt electricity to the national grid,” he elaborated.
Later on, the Punjab chief minister visited village Pipli Wala and condoled with the parents of a child Ahmed Raza due to a stray kite string.
On the occasion, CM Shahbaz Sharif ordered the district administration and police officers to ensure implementation of Kite-Flying Act. He warned that in future if any such incident occurred the police and civil officers concerned would be held responsible and stern action would be taken against them. He also ordered the CPO and DCO that the officers concerned should be suspended immediately. The Punjab chief minister also presented a cheque of Rs500,000 to the father of deceased child. The Punjab CM also ordered the CPO to arrest the accused involved in rape case of a girl.
