LAHORE - Punjab Minister for Sports Jahangir Khanzada Saturday awarded Rs 50 million cheque to Punjab Squash Association (PSA) president Dr Nadeem Mukhtar for promotion of the game in province.
Secretary Sports Punjab M Aamir Jan, Director Sports Anees Sheikh and Director Admin Javed Rasheed Chohan were also present during the cheque-awarding ceremony. Addressing the ceremony, Khanzada said Pakistan has ruled the squash world for a long time. “Pakistan produced squash legends like Jahangir Khan and Jansher Khan, which is a great honour. We will continue to extend every kind of assistance for squash promotion.”
The minister said Punjab government will promote every game including squash under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif. “The Sports Board Punjab and Punjab Squash Association will work together to hunt budding talent, groom them through best training and coaching and then help Pakistan squash regain its lost glory.”
Secretary Sports Punjab Aamir Jan said squash is a popular game among the youth. “We will continue to support Punjab Squash Association for the growth of this game.”
“A boxing arena is being built in Punjab for the first time at divisional level. We will hold boxing championship in collaboration with Punjab Boxing Association. A grand boxing complex is also being constructed with the cost of Rs 50 crore. As many as 22 gymnasiums have been completed in Punjab,” he added.
PSA president Dr Nadeem Mukhtar thanked the Sports Minister and Secretary Sports for extending much-needed support to the association. He announced to hold 15 to 20 domestic squash events besides a couple of international level tournaments.
