Opp demands re-poll in Swabi, seeks NA speaker’s disqualification

Swabi - Candidates belonging to several political parties have challenged the results of local government election for Swabi tehsil chairman and demanded a re-election.

Candidates of Awami National Party (ANP), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) staged a march in the district headquarters and later walked towards the office of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) here.

ANP candidate Akmal Khan, PML-N’s Rab Nawaz, QWP’s Imtiaz Zaib and JUI-F’s Noorul Islam along with their supports demanded that Asad Qaiser, Speaker of the National Assembly, should be disqualified from his seat as he had allegedly violated the ECP election rules.

The opposition leaders demanded cancellation of the results and re-election for the slot of Swabi tehsil chairman.

In the two-page application, they said they had the evidence regarding how Asad Qaiser openly ran the election campaign and announced development schemes.

The applicants said Form-17 and Form-18 were refused to them, the ballot papers provided were not appropriate, the ECP staff arrived late and the polling was deliberately slowed down when the PTI candidate was far behind in the contest.

They alleged that their parties’ supporters had also been threatened through WhatsApp messages.
