PM doubles sports federations annual grant: Jakhrani

ISLAMABAD Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani has doubled the annual grant of the national sports federations and they would get Rs.1850 millions in future. Federal Minister for Sports Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani told reporters after meeting with the prime minister on Tuesday, adding that the prime minister has also formed a Task Force to work out the National Sports Policy in two months, which would also be implemented on Pakistan Sports Board (PSB). Aijaz Jakhrani said that the annual grant for the sports was Rs 92 million and the prime minister doubled the amount for the promotion of sports, as he was wishing to win the battle against terrorism with the field of sports. It was a historic announcement by the prime minister to fight terrorism through power of sports. The prime minister gave a concept From battlefield to the sports field, he added. He said that the Task Force would be headed by Federal Minister for Sports and Education Minister, Minister for Inter Provincial Coordinator (IPC), provincial ministers from all four provinces, President of Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) and ex-champions would be the members of Task Force. Task Force will also look into the recommendations made by the Ministry of Sports in the presentation and to frame a viable sports policy which will be implemented on all sports organisations of the country including PCB, he asserted. Jakhrani further said that PM was keen to do some thing for sports. PM also announced the scholarships in all leading schools and colleges for sportsmen and play ground will be compulsory for all the educational institutes. PM has announced physical education classes for on to two hours in all schools, he said. He said that sports complexes and buildings would be named after heroes, champions and great sportsmen. Foreign missions will be asked to approach for hiring of international standard coaches and trainers. Also, provincial government and private sectors will be involved in the sports, he added. PM has promised to approach the foreign donors to include Sports educationin their education projects as integral component of the projects. The PM instructed all the responsible authorities to include the sports education as part of development package for underdeveloped militancy-affected areas, he said. Aijaz said that the prime minister had also directed the officials concerned to restart inter-schools, colleges and universities fixtures with full patronage by the institutions like scholarships, sports quota admissions and top sportsman of the year. The PM also announced to regularise the services of sportsmen presently working on contract basis, he concluded.
