ISLAMABAD - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to consult political parties over the new amendments made in the Election code of conduct (CoC) which permits Member of Parliaments (MPs) to take part in election campaigns.
The changes in laws related to the election code of conduct for elections by the federal government were made through an ordinance.
As per the details shared by the sources privy to the development, the move to take up the matter of amendments in the Election Act was made in a meeting headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja.
The official sources revealed that in the meeting headed by CEC, It was decided to approach the political parties through letters to get their opinion about the development.
The source maintained that after consultation with parties, the Commission will again approach the government side and will inform it of its take on the matter concerned.
It must be noted that the government has brought changes in law related to the election code of conduct which will permit the MPs to run election campaigns for their selected candidates in the country.
