Kalabagh/Shahtaj win Islamabad Club Challenge Cup trophy

LAHORE - Team Kalabagh/Shahtaj won the the Islamabad Club Challenge Cup 2022 trophy after edging past Rizvi’s/PAF 7-6 in the main final at the Islamabad Club Polo Ground on Sunday.
According to information made available here, Guy Gibrat made the day for Kalabagh/Shahtaj as he, ably supported by his teammates, stamped his authority throughout the main final and smashed in superb six goals out of seven while the remaining one goal came from Hashim Waheed. Team Rizvi’s/PAF though matched fire-with-fire till the end, but they couldn’t finish well, thus losing the title clash by a narrow margin of 6-7. Hamza Mawaz Khan was key contributor with four goals while Asfandyar Khan and Sqn Ldr Hamza Iqbal hit one goal apiece.
Both the teams started the final by converting one goal each to make it 1-1. Kalabagh/Shahtaj then showed their class in the second chukker by firing in four goals against one by Rizvi’s/PAF to gain a healthy 5-2 lead. Rizvi’s/PAF made a good comeback in the third chukker by thrashing in two back-to-back goals to reduce the margin to 5-4.
The closely-contested fourth and last chukker saw both the sides scoring two goals each with Kalabagh/Shahtaj still having a slight 7-6 lead, thus emerging as title winners. Eulogio Celestino and Raja Jalal Arslan supervised the final as field umpires.
His Excellency Mr. Leopoldo Francisco Sahores, Ambassador of Argentine Republic, graced the occasion as chief guest and distributed prizes and shields among the winners and top performers. He congratulated the winning team and lauded the players for making the final enthralling and exciting one through their superb performances.
Speaking on the occasion, Hashim Waheed and Malik Salaar of Kalabagh/Shahtaj said: “We worked really hard to compete well against our opponents in the high-goal events. This team work, unity and hard work helped us win the second eight-goal title in this season. We are committed and hopeful of doing well in the forthcoming events and try to win more titles.”
