LAHORE - Asad Zaman (McDonald’s) stunned Hassan Ali 8-3 in the boys U-18 pre-quarterfinals of the Sapphire Punjab Junior Tennis Championship 2021, which was inaugurated formally here on Tuesday at the PLTA Courts.
In other boys U-18 pre-quarterfinals, promising Abdul Hanan Khan thrashed Zain Saeed 8-0, spirited Bilal Asim outclassed Zahra Suleman 8-0, Faizan Fayyaz overwhelmed Muneeb Majeed 8-0 and Ahtesham Arif beat Abubakar Khalil 8-4. In U-18 first round, Hassan Ali beat Arman Kamran 8-0, Zahra Suleman beat M Sohaan Noor 8-3 and Ahtesham Humayun beat Saeed Suleman 8-0.
In U-14 pre-quarterfinals, Asad Zaman of McDonald’s outpaced Aleena Suleman 8-1, Omer Jawad trounced Abdur Rehman 8-1, Hashir Alam outlasted Ismail Aftab 8-4, Shehryar Anees beat Abubakar Khalil 8-1, Raja Mustafa beat Harris Bajwa 8-1 and Ahtesham Humayun beat M Sohaan Noor 8-2. In U-12 pre-quarterfinals, Harris Bajwa beat Inam Bari 8-3, Hajra beat Afaf Suleman 8-2 and Abdullah Sajjad Wahla beat Fajar Fayyaz 8-2.
Earlier, PLTA Secretary Rashid Malik (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz), who is also tournament organizer, inaugurated the event in a colorful opening ceremony, which was also attended by players, their families and tennis lovers. The tournament will conclude on August 27 and the prizes and shields will be distributed among the winning players. Malik also thanked Sponsors, Sapphire, for sponsoring this event and hoped that they will continue to support this beautiful game.
