Rawalpindi-Deputy District Education Officer Chakwal on Friday announced a ban on co-education saying boys would not be allowed to study with girls students in classes six, seven and eight in the government run school in the district, informed sources.
After the issuance of notification no. 1729 dated 21 December 2021 by DDEO (M-EE) Chakwal Arif, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Chakwal Capt (R) Bilal Hashim and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Education have taken notice of the matter, they said.
A showcause notice has been issued to DDEO (M-EE) Chakwal Arid by the CEO Education Department, they added.
According to sources, DDEO (M-EE) Chakwal Arif has issued directions to all head teachers E/S Male Tehsil Chakwal to exclude names of female students studying in co-education in classes six, seven and eight from enrolment lists.
The notification, issued by DDEO, reads: “Prohibition of co-education at elementary level. You all hereby clearly conveyed that SED Punjab strictly prohibits co-education at elementary level and so on that is from class 6th upwards in schooling so that admission of girls in 6th class or above is stern violation of departmental rules and shall be considered grave misconduct and inefficiency on part of the perpetrator concerned.
In the light of above, you all are directed to immediately remove/stuck off girls from 6th class to 8th class if any girls have been enrolled yet with further direction of no admission of opposite gender student at your schools as per directions of SED ibid.” 
On the other hand, DC and CEO Education took notice of the issue and assured that names of female students would not be excluded from enrolment lists, but they will be shifted to girls’ schools, sources said.
Meanwhile, DC Chakwal Capt (R) Bilal Hashim, on the other hand, issued an order number 620/EA dated 24 December 2021 stating the instruction passed without prior approval of the authority by the Deputy District Education Officer (M-EE), Chakwal vide letter No. 1729 dated 21 December 2021 regarding Prohibition of Co-Education at Elementary Level is hereby cancelled/withdrawn as ab-intio.
