Amin Fahim fighting cancer at London hospital

LAHORE - President PPP-P Makhdum Amin Fahim is seriously ill, fighting cancer at a London hospital, it has been learnt reliably.
Sources in the PPP said that Makhdum, aged around 80, underwent a major surgery related to cancer at Berlin, Germany last month and was undergoing post- surgery treatment at a hospital in London at the moment.
“He is feeble, lying on bed struggling to overcome his cancer disease,” a PPP leader told TheNation who recently returned from London after meeting the veteran PPP leader. According to him, Makhdum Amin is also facing hear loss as a result of the disease.
“His condition is such that he is not taking calls from friends and party men from Pakistan and abroad,” he further told about the deteriorating health of the elder Makhdum whose absence from recent party meetings was conspicuous. It is relevant to mention here that Rukhsana Bangash, political secretary to Asif Ali Zardari, issued a notification last week in the name of Amin Fahim nominating Mr Shaukat Mehmood Basra as party’s general secretary for south Punjab. This was done while Makhdum was in hospital apparently without his knowledge. Amin Fahim is legal head of the PPP-P and all such notifications have to be issued in his name. Asif Ali Zardari is de facto head of the party at the moment. But there are reports that he would become head of the PPP-P in September this year after the constitutional bar on his assuming any party office is no more relevant.
