Peshawar - Corps Commander Peshawar Lt Gen Faiz Hameed attended a Jirga in Kaniguram area of South Waziristan tribal district on Friday.
Ahead of the Jirga, the Corps Commander also visited the Army Public School in Kaniguram and interacted with traders in the local market.
Inspector General of Frontier Corps-South (IGFC) Maj Gen Mohammad Munir and Deputy Commissioner Meraj Amjad and local elders including Malik Pir Minhajuddin, Malik Fayyazur Rahman Mahsud, Mohammad Asif Khan, and Shakir Mahsud attended the event.
The area elders asked the military official to speak to authorities regarding construction of a 50km road from Kaniguram up to the Afghan border to promote trade activities in the area. They also criticised slow pace of work on a small dam in Shakai.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt-Gen Faiz Hameed lauded both the military personnel and tribal people for rendering sacrifices for the restoration of peace in the country.
He also directed authorities to open category-D hospital in the area and said that all closed schools and hospitals should now be reopened in South Waziristan.
The Corps Commander also said that trade should be promoted through local routes with Afghanistan.
