Bridge over Rawal Dam Chowk demanded



ISLAMABAD  – social, civil societies, residents, locals of Rawal Dam Colony, Rawal Town, Margalla Colony, federal environs have demanded a crossing bridge over Rawal Dam Chowk.
The notables of the area have expressed great commuting difficulties and 24-hour, 2-way intense traffic jams on Chak Shahzad, Taramari Road Chowk, seriously affecting students, employees of Rawal Lake.
They also expressed their concerns about numerous accidents occurred on the spot, and reminded that a public promise had been made by former federal minister Aftab Ahmad Sherpao to rectify the situation.
APP adds: The I-8 overhead bridge constructed after a fatal accident in which one student lost his life is no more i jump on busy highway putting not only their own lives at risk but those of the motorists also.
They said that these students usually think that they save their time by using a short-cut for crossing the road instead of overhead bridge.
But practically, they waste extra time while waiting to get a chance to cross the road through heavy speeding traffic. A Traffic Police official, while talking to APP, said they were doing their best to educate the road users on road safety and different signboards across the Capital roads had been installed for their guidance.
Several fatal road accidents have occurred on the Islamabad Expressway due to the negligence of pedestrians, he said. Motorists requested the students to use overhead bridges, which were installed for their safety and smooth flow of traffic. The Islamabad Highway is one of the busiest roads as it is used by most of the traffic coming from Lahore to enter Islamabad and Rawalpindi, they added.
A motorist Rehan Khattak urged the teachers and parents to educate the students about adopting road safety measures and avoid crossing the busy Islamabad highway specially at rush hours.
