KARACHI - Karachi Water and Sewerage Board’s Chief Executive Officer will be appointed from private sector, purely on merit, said Sindh Chief Secretary here on Thursday.
Addressing members of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, during his visit to the Association, Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah said KW&SB was an old institution which needed a lot of reforms. In its study, he referred, World Bank had recommended immediate reforms in the institution. It had also suggested 10 billion dollars investment for the city’s infrastructure development.
KATI President Salman Aslam, Korangi Industrial Trading Estate Limited’s CEO, Zubair Chhaya, KATI’s Senior Vice President Ms.Maheen Salman, Vice President Farrukh Qandhari, former presidents Saleem-uz-Zaman, Sheikh Umer Rehan, Gulzar Firoz, Ehteshamuddin, Sheikh Fazal-e-Jalil, Johar Qandhari and SSP Korangi Faisal Bashir Memon were prominent at the interactive meeting.
Chief Secretary paid tribute to the business community of Karachi for successfully running their industires and businesses despite many odds, mainly during COVI-19 outbreak. He said the work on mass transit in Karachi was on full swing as upgradation of the transport sector in the city was of very much needed. Work was in progress on five other BRT routes in the city, while Green Line Bus had been launched. The work on Karachi Circular Railway was being carried out on priority basis. He said that no one could deny the importance of Karachi in Pakistan’s economy.
“ If Karachi develops, then Pakistan will develop,” he remarked adding that for this reason the Federal and Provincial governments were taking all possible steps for the betterment and rehabilitation of Karachi.
Earlier, KATI President Salman Aslam, in his welcome speech, appreciated the services of the Chief Secretary to ensure better administration in the city. President KATI said that Sindh Chief Secretary was fortunate that he enjoyed maximum support by all the stakeholders of the city, including the business community. KITE Limited’s CEO Zubair Chhaya mentioned that since 2014 when he was appointed as Home Secretary in Sindh , Mumtaz Ali Shah had excellent relations with the business community.
Zubair Chhaya pointed out that garbage disposal was the biggest problem in Korangi. Garbage was being brought from District East and dumped here. He requested the Chief Secretary to play his role for resolution of this serious issue facing Korangi industrialists.
