Peshawar - An encounter in Hayatabad Township left two cops martyred. However, the police succeeded in arresting a proclaimed offender and his accomplices during the exchange of firing here on Wednesday.

The police said that on a tip-off about presence of an outlaw, the cops conducted a raid in Hayatabad; however, the proclaimed offender and his accomplices opened fire when the police arrived. As a result, ASI Mohammad Riaz and Constable Jafar Ali were martyred in Phase-7 of the posh locality.

The police arrested the wanted man, identified as Hamza, a resident of Bannu district, and a weapon was also recovered from him. Later on, funeral prayer for the martyred cops was offered at the police lines in Peshawar, where a contingent also saluted the coffins.

Talking to journalists after the funeral prayer, a senior police officer said that that cops conducted raid after receiving a tip-off about the presence of criminals at a house in Hayatabad.

However, the criminals opened fire, resulting in martyrdom of two police officials. He said the cops had arrested the killer.
