Peoples Party stands by CEC, says Bilawal

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan People’s Party chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari yesterday said that the PPP stands by Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja for improving the standing of Election Commission of Pakistan.

He said former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s attack on the institutions was only meant to regain power. “We support all institutions in their effort to transition from controversial to constitutional rolls. Imran Khan’s politics now is to target all institutions with his ‘Mujay Ku Nahi Bachaya (why didn’t you save me)’ campaign. His politics is now based on lies and propaganda,” he added. In a statement, Bilawal said the people know the only reason Imran Khan is targeting the Election Commission of Pakistan is CEC, his own party chose, has refused to turn the ECP into Imran Khan’s tiger force. “The CEC has stood with his institution and the constitution, if this continues we have hopes of seeing an empowered ECP in the future,” he remarked. The PPP Chairman said that Imran Khan’s protest call at ECP was a blatant pressure tactic to further bully, blackmail, and pressure the institution into not releasing damning foreign funding decisions. “All such efforts will fail. The truth will prevail,” he added.

Says Imran Khan’s attacks on institutions based on lies

Meanwhile yesterday, PPP leaders Faisal Karim Kundi and Nadeem Afzal Chan told a news conference that the PPP condemns the act of targeting Pakistan Army. “They (the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf) are working on India’s agenda in the lure of power. Imran Khan has gone and no electricity has been generated, they are making noise for fear of lawsuits, they must be searched now, action should be taken against those violating the constitution under Article 6. All political parties except PTI stand with the ECP, we need accountability under the constitution at this time, condemn the attacks on the election commission,” said Faisal Kundi. He questioned how Member Provincial Assembly Faisal Zaman, accused of murder escaped from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa MPA hostel. “He was staying in MPA hostel for 42 days to attend KP Assembly session. The Chief Minister, Speaker KP and IG KP are responsible for this escape. We demand that an FIR be registered against the Chief Minister KP and IG KP. If the same incident had taken place in Sindh, human rights organizations and media would have taken to the skies,” he said. Nadeem Afzal Chan said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif should take action under Article 6 against those who have violated the constitution.

“We had objected in the internal meeting, Imran Khan is targeting the organization, Imran Khan also said who are his opponents and facilitators,” he added.
