Country is being run by mafias: PAC chief

ISLAMABAD - The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday, while considering an audit objection related to the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG), maintained that the country is being run by the mafias and they are above all institutions.

The PAC met here at Parliament House under the chair of MNA Rana Tanveer Hussain that discussed three identical audit objections related to the import of liquefied natural gas at higher rates.

The director general audit petroleum informed the committee that a loss of Rs10.07 billion has been sustained by the Pakistan LNG Limited and Pakistan States Oil Limited due to their ill planned purchase of spot cargoes in 2020 and 2021.

The auditors pointed out that the loss was caused due to lack of planning and timely decisions. They pointed out that due to mismanagement and unnecessary delays in the tendering process, the contracts were awarded at higher rates.
