Vehicles with unauthorised numberplates to be impounded

ISLAMABAD - Senior Superintendent of Islamabad Traffic Police Muhammad Zubair Hashmi Sunday said that to counterfeit the vehicles involved in the incidents of crime, ITP started a special campaign against the vehicles displaying non-pattern numberplates. He said that it was observed that such vehicles have been found indulged in such incidences in the past, hence the citizens are being advised to use Number Plates on their vehicles according to prescribed format. According to details Islamabad Traffic Police started a special campaign against Non Pattern Number Plates giving a warning period from 18-01-2009 to 25-01-2009 that the citizens should replace Non Pattern Number Plates with prescribed format of Number Plates. SSP Traffic stressed upon the citizens to display number plates according to format as laid down in Motor vehicles Ordinance enabling the local police to nab the criminals, using vehicles displaying fake number plates in criminal/ sabotage activities. The motorcyclists are advised to display front numberplate instead of writing the registration number on mudguard of the motorcycle. It was informed the motorists to display number plates either computerised number plates issued from ETO Office or a number plate depicting black writing with white back ground for private vehicles and yellow or white back ground for public transport. The size of alphabets should be 2-1/2 inch while the size of numeric should be 3-1/2 inch. Like wise the size of front numberplate should be 12 X 4 inches in length and height and back number plate should be 12 X 6 inches in length and height otherwise strict action will be taken against the violators. Police asked to curb car thef crimes Senior Superintendent Police Capt (Retd) Ahmad Latif has directed the In-charge Anti Car Lifting Cell and all Station House Officers of ICT Police to take stringent measures to curb car theft crimes from the Capital. Strict preventive measures may be adopted to safeguard the property of citizens and ensured apprehension of criminals involved car lifting. The accused arrested involved in car lifting offence may be interrogated properly and dig out the persons who are patronising them and modes operandi being used by them so that they could be brought into the clutches of law with the assistance of concerned local police. Paid parking system may be got introduced at vulnerable places. He directed that surveillance might be mounted on the activities of those accused that are released from jails. Simultaneously, a campaign may be launched to create awareness amongst the public giving them tips to save the vehicle, he directed. For this purpose pamphlets and brochures may be got printed and distributed between the public. They may be persuaded to get installed Security alarm system or trackers in their valuable vehicles. At the car parking, CCTVs may be got installed with the assistance of trader's community. The community may also be convinced to get checked their vehicles from Forensic Science Laboratory to avoid purchase of tampered/stolen vehicles.
