Edu institutions lack security arrangements

BAHAWALPUR

Hundreds of educational institutions in Bahawalpur Division are still deprived of basic facilities and security arrangements amidst the poor law and order across the country, a government, as per government official.
After the attack on Bacha Khan University, the security arrangements of private and government educational institutes were thoroughly reviewed in Bahawalpur Division.
Twenty out of 1,994 government schools in District Bahawalpur, 63 out of 2,278 government schools in Bahawalnagar district while 1,493 out of 3,248 government schools in Rahim Yar Khan district lack metal detectors. Two universities do not have the boundary wall while directions have been issued to get data of the populations around the schools.
In Bahawalpur, 609 out of 1,994 schools; in Bahawalnagar 1,131 out of 2,278 schools; and in Rahim Yar Khan, 304 out of 3248 government schools do not have security guards and watchmen while none of the government schools in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan has walkthrough gates.
According to a government report, Bahawalpur’s 25 and Rahim Yar Khan’s 93 private schools lack security guards while Bahawalpur’s 761, Bahawalnagar’s 459 and Rahim Yar Khan’s 613 private schools do not have walkthrough gates.
Bahawalpur’s 12 out of 42 government colleges, Bahawalnagar’s 19 colleges and Rahim Yar Khan’s 18 colleges lack walkthrough gates.
In the meeting, District Officer Coordination Dr Javed Ahmad directed to put security on high alert in educational institutes.
He issued these directions during a meeting with the head of government and private educational institutes regarding security arrangements.
He said that complete data of the populations around the schools be collected and police stations be informed about the new occupants and guests in these areas.
TEAM TO LOOK INTO RS200M SCAM: The Punjab government has been constituted a committee to look into a corruption case of water supply project of Bahawalpur.
Rs200 million corruption was unearthed in the Bahawalpur Mega Water Supply project. The Anti-Corruption Establishment Bahawalpur had earlier registered cases against 15 officials and contractors.
Now the Punjab government has also taken notice of the corruption, according to Punjab government orders issued to the inquiry team.
Director General (I&M) Punjab Local Government will be the convener of the inquiry team includes chief engineer of Punjab Local Government Board and technical consultant of PMDFC as its members. It was directed to point the officers and officials who were involved in the corruption.
