Open waste burning banned

KARACHI - City administration has imposed ban on burning of garbage and dumping waste at any place of the city except landfill sites on Thursday.

This was decided in a meeting chaired by Karachi Commissioner Ijaz Ahmed Khan at Commissioner House, Karachi on Thursday.

The meeting was attended by Karachi-I additional commissioner, DIG district west, managing director Solid Waste Management Board, deputy commissioners, municipal commissioners of all district municipal corporations, representatives of KMC, cantonment boards and others.

The meeting has reviewed the work regarding cleanliness in city and took various decisions for betterment of cleanliness situation in the metropolis. The meeting forced the municipal departments to play their vital role in cleanliness work in city and lift garbage from their respective jurisdictions and dumped it at landfill sites.

The meeting also discussed that several departments frequently violating the orders of administration and dumping waste at other places of city. Solid Waste Management Board managing director also informed the meetings about the names of departments those failed to dumping waste at landfill sites.

Following the concern raised by the Solid Waste Management Board, the meeting decided that all municipal departments to ensure the dumping of waste at landfill sites while if any vehicle found violating the orders then strict action would be taken against the officials.

It was also decided that all municipal authorities should, cooperate with the Solid Waste Management Board for betterment of cleanliness situation and submit the daily reports in solid waste management board.

During the meeting Karachi commissioner Ijaz Ahmed Khan took notice over burning of garbage in city and imposed ban on burning of garbage in all districts. Commissioner directed the concern departments to take stern action if anybody found in this practice.
