The Election Commission of Pakistan and local administration have finalized all arrangements to hold fair, free and transparent by-election to Punjab Assembly constituency PP-100 Kamoke being held on Sunday (today). The ECP handed over stationary, polling boxes and other necessary material to the presiding officers and other election staff here. The polling process will be held on Sunday (today).
There is a one-on-one contest between the PML-N candidate Rana Akhtar and PTI candidate Ch Ehsan Ullah Virk. The majority of polling staff comprises of the Education Department officials. A total 113 polling stations have been set up in the constituency of which 55 have been declared as sensitive.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has also banned holding any procession and setting up of any camp within 100 feet of polling stations while no one would be allowed to carry weapons and execute fireworks on polling day.
Gujranwala City Police Officer (CPO) Waqas Nazir said that all-out efforts are being made to hold the by-election in a peaceful atmosphere. He said that 2,200 police personnel would be deployed at different polling stations to maintain the law and order situation.
It is to be noted that PP-100 Kamoke fell vacant after the death of PML-N MPA Rana Shamshad Ahmed Khan who along with his son and a friend was shot dead.
