MIRPUR (AJK) - A civilian was injured as a result of unprovoked firing by the Indian troops on populous forward village along the Line of Control in Chirikot sector in Haveili district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, officials said.
A local civilian lad, Muhammad Wasim, of forward Polas village sustained serious injuries due to the unprovoked firing by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) from across the LoC in Chirikot sector, a Haveili district administration officer told this correspondent Saturday evening.
The injured was immediately rushed to the local hospital and was, later, shifted to hospital in Islamabad due to his serious condition, the official said.
India opened gunfire Saturday morning without any provocation, targeting the civilian populous areas, which lasted several hours intermittently. The population of the firing-hit villages close to this side of the LoC in Chirikot sector was confined to their houses for several hours owing to the Indian firing. However, the morale of the local people was high and there was no report of shifting of the population from the firing-hit areas.
At least four people have been killed and five injured by the unprovoked firing of the Indian border security force (BSF) on civilian population on this side of the LoC in the recent days.
Renewed tensions along the Line of Control in the disputed Jammu & Kashmir and the working boundary in Sialkot as well as the intrusion of an Indian spy drone into Pakistani territory last week have thrown the fate of crucial talks between the national security advisers of Pakistan and India in the doldrums.
Last week a team of United Nations Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) visited the villages most affected by Indian shelling on working boundary on Jammu-Sialkot sector. They visited Salehpur, Chaprar and Malane in Chaprar sector in Sialkot, met wounded civilians and witnessed Indian atrocities on the civil population.
