HAFIZABAD-With a view to transform ‘thana culture’ and bringing it in the line with public aspirations, the district police have established District Command and Control Centre to make the department more effective, efficient and transparent, the district police officer claimed.
In an exclusive interview with The Nation, DPO Haroon Joyia said that the centre has been set up for introduction of modern technology into system of policing.
He elaborated that the police have been empowered with new technology, and well-educated and well-mannered administrative officers have been appointed in every police stations. Moreover, he noted, the centre would ensure swift implementation of operational assignments and speedy follow up of the ongoing operations, he deposed.
“This is not only a “Nerve Centre” for monitoring operational activities of local police but also a communicational hub that establishes easy linkage between field staff and commanding unit. Moreover, all community members are being registered and data concerning criminal, suspects, tenants and visitors to the city is also stored and analysed through software and it also affectively helps in monitoring the crime in the area besides, response time and service delivery of local police to any emergency situation and all the crimes in the area being mapped through which the crime hot spots can be analysed,” he said.
Regarding emergency alert system, he said, that USSD code for conveying emergency situation at any of the registered vulnerable establishment has been indigenously designed which covers schools, banks and other sensitive installations and the user dials *55# at their respective sites in case of any emergency and all concerned officers are being intimated immediately about the panic site.
Regarding Rescue15 Response, he said, all the calls made to Rescue 15 are registered in this system and response to the calls is monitored through this software from command and control centre. He added caller feedback is also being evaluated through automatically generated SMS service. All calls made to the 15 recorded for quality assurance and unnecessary calls are blocked through this software.
He said that all the record of the police station is being digitalised which will help in better monitoring of police stations as all the supervisory officers get the latest progress of cases immediately and performance of all the IOs could be analysed. The compliant management system is currently operational in all the ten police stations of the district and all complaints are being monitored live and a phone call is made to all complainants and prompt disposal of complaints is being ensured. He further said daily performance evaluation mechanism has been envisaged wherein daily performance of all the police stations is discussed and monitored in a video conference from the centre. All the admin officers of the district participate in this conference. It is an essential exercise that is performed on daily basis in which daily crimes and 15 calls, pending complaints and references, important events, law and order issues, court matters and raiding plans to arrest the POs etc. are being gathered and discussed.
All police stations have been provided with the video conferencing facility, he claimed. In case of emergency proximal police mobiles are directed to move to the concerned site with the help of online map being displayed at the centre, he said. The movement of police vehicles are also being monitored through vehicle tracking system, he said and added social media desk has also been set up in the centre in order to bridge the gap between the police and public.
Permanent check points have been established at all the major entry and exit points, he said. In order to monitor entry into and out of the district, these points are covered through CCTV cameras, he concluded.
